Mayor’s Clean Sweep

The Charitable Projects for April is “The Mayor’s Clean Sweep”. This is an annual Spring Clean-up of streets and public areas in Marlboro. Its is organized by the Commission of Streets at the DPW. The date is Saturday, April 29th. The rain date is Sunday, April 30th.

MANNC has been assigned the Memorial Beach area for clean-up. This is off of Hosmer Street in Marlboro and away from traffic, if you would like your child to participate. We will be picking up litter, possibly small tree branches, and sweeping away sand (NOT THE SAND ON THE BEACH!, just sand on sidewalks).

The time is 9:00am to approximately 12:00pm. We will meet at the Memorial Beach parking lot. Please bring brooms, rakes & gloves. Some will be provided, but there may not be enough to go around. Everyone attending will receive a “Project Clean Sweep” t-shirt. There will be coffee, juice and donuts served in the morning.

Afterwards, I think it would be nice, if all MANNC members participating could meet for lunch. Perhaps for pizza. Suggestions are welcome.

Excerpt from “The Walrus and the Carpenter”, by Lewis Carroll

The Walrus and the Carpenter
Were walking close at hand;
They wept like anything to see
Such quantities of sand:
“If this were only cleared away,”
They said, “it would be grand!”

“If seven maids with seven mops
Swept it for half a year,
Do you suppose,” the Walrus said,
“That they could get it clear?”
“I doubt it,” said the Carpenter,
And shed a bitter tear.
